Capacity-building
In order to begin, let alone, develop the process of capacity-building for filmmaking in Sierra Leone, it is very important to know our exisiting level of professional skills, services andequipment available. If you are a Sierra Leone filmmaker, or provide relevant services, pleasecontact the Film Workshop with your details so that we can include you in the Professional Register.
Training
Formal professional training is a big issue in Sierra Leone. Although there have been one or two initiatives such as the enthusiastic work done by Scriptnet or CafeSociety, no courses have any 'follow through'. To date there is no provision for a sustained course of professinal developnment that can ensure the teaching and practice of skills appropriate to the long term raising of standards and that can contribute to an economically viable and self-sustaining indigenous industry.
To complement the launch of XTV, a series of local training courses is being planned for independent filmmakers. The aim is to cover all the important key areas of ideation, scripting, finance, planning, shooting, editing and distribution. Look out for details.
Professional Affiliations
With the help of international Union organisations, we are currenty exploring the possibility of official recognition and representation by, and/or affiliation with, various relevant national and international organisations. Locally, this includes organisations such as the nascent National Arts Council, the Labour Congress, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ).(See Union page.)
